5 Ways to Better Accommodate Your Cable Guy

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

1. Secure pets and children when the cable guy is at your location.
- To make the technician's job easier and a lot faster, avoid having pets and kids running around bumping into things while the cable guy is working.

2. Clean up a bit before the cable guys arrive.
Yes, that moldy milk that's been sitting there for days, not a pleasant sight nor smell for the cable guy. A smelly and messy place will only make for an uncomfortable cable guy which in turn affects the smoothness of the visit.

3. Make sure that all equipment (e.g, TV, phone, computers, etc.) are there and ready before the cable guy arrives.
This is basic common sense.

4. Avoid  Coax wiring.
"don’t try to do it yourself, because you probably don’t know what you're doing. Radio Shack and Wal-Mart coax cable sucks. It’s usually RG-59 equivalent and is good for nothing. We use RG-6 or better. and the connectors, and dielectric/outer sheet layer differences on our cable make worlds of difference. Thanks for trying to help, but trust us on this one".says “InstallerTechJeff” on Cable Rant Forums.

5. Gratitude goes a long way.
Cable guys are human too. If you are satisfied with the work they've done, give them that positive feedback that they might need to brighten their day, and if you feel like going an extra mile, give them a tip for a good job done.

BONUS! Offer Them a Glass of Water or Juice.
Many times these people are doing job after job without a break. If you have a cable guy over, treat him like a guest and appreciate him with something to drink. If they decline, at least the gesture speaks volumes.
