What to Do When Your Cable Goes Out

by HN Porter of tech4today.net\

Imagine you are busy watching your favorite show and your cable suddenly goes out. Most of us have experienced this before and know how frustrating it can be. However, it's important to remain calm as all it takes sometimes to fix the issue is a small action from your part without even having to call your cable provider.

The first thing to do is check your equipment and see if everything is still connected. If you have a device with an internet connection you can log in your account with your cable provider and check the status of your equipment.

This can be accessed at the technical support area after logging in. Many providers have problem-solving tools available to assist customers in a situation of an outage. Companies  allows you to select the problematic service from a menu which can inform you of any possible issues in your area.

If this doesn't work you can also try turning your device on and off as it may have malfunctioned and may require a power cycle. Turn it off for at least 30 seconds before turning it back on.
If there is an error code on the device you can review it using the user manual or by checking your cable provider's website. It is also important to make sure that your cable bill is paid and up to date. However, if the outage continues, try calling your cable provider for assistance and any reports of outages in your area.

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

Choosing a home internet provider can be a quite a hassle. How do you reach a final decision when you have so many options? For most people their decision is highly affected by price, (Who doesn't love cheap internet?), others look more on the cable and internet deals provided and if it is worth their money, for others it's simply based on  the question," What are the internet providers available in my area?"
Here at tech4tech we more than happy to assist you in reaching a decision faster when choosing a home internet provider that suit your needs. Here are our top 4 picks and the reasons why:

1. Charter Spectrum
-No data caps: Spectrum is one the few internet providers that offer no data caps in its internet deals, allowing its customers to enjoy unlimited internet for downloading, streaming and uploading.

Tesla Share Rise as Analyst Foresees High Demand and Profitability in 2019

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

Longtime Tesla bull Daniel Ives who is also a Wall Street analyst stated that underlying drivers” for the EV market would likely encourage customers to purchase Tesla’s most affordable electric sedan, despite the focus of other carmakers on larger vehicles such as SUVs.
He also said that the production delays that have weighed on the company and its stock TSLA for the past year appear to have been resolved, demand looks strong heading into 2019 and the company is “poised to generate improved profitability and cash flow that puts the risk of a capital raise in the background for now.”
Quoting the marketwatch.com, Tesla Inc. shares rose 3% in early trade Wednesday before paring some of those gains, boosted by an optimistic note from Wedbush suggesting investor attention has shifted to the electric-car maker’s strong market opportunity and away from its Model 3 production problems.
The automotive and energy company is now on course with the delivery of the European Model 3 and shipments seem to be scheduled, with the window for customer s in host countries now opening.

“While there are worries that some European unit shipments might spill over into the second quarter and out of the first quarter, which could skew linearity in the first half of 2019, we believe the Street is well aware of this potential timing dynamic as underlying pent-up demand looks robust on this new European frontier for Musk & Co heading into 2019 with China also a major growth catalyst on the heels of recent price cuts,” Ives wrote in a note.
Ives also iterated his outperform rating on Tesla stock and its price target which is $440. this makes it 49% above its current trading level.

Things to Consider When Choosing an Internet or Cable Plan

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

1. Know your options
-Not every provider is available in your area, find out what providers are available in your area so you are aware of what your options are. You can use sites like Digital Landing to find out what's available by using your address.

Different providers come with different terms and conditions. So it is important to know what it will mean for you to enter into business with them. Find out if their services come with a contract or not, how much it'll cost you should you terminate services before the end of the contract and what payment methods/options do they have in place, etc. You can also ask around from people who are already in business with the provider. some of the questions you can ask are:
* How is your experience with the provider?
* How often does the service go out?
*How long does it take to get fixed?
* How is the customer service?
It is important to have a clear view of the provider before taking any deal with them, so find out as much as you can prior to establishing the service.

3. Decide what best caters to yo
- Find out what internet speed will work best for you and how many channels you actually need. It will save you from paying for extra things you hardly use or watch. If you can't decide on your own, call your chosen provider and get a professional opinion. Most providers have sales representatives always ready to assist customers in buying the best deals that meet their needs at the best prices. They can also assist you with the buying process, guaranteeing a smooth and fast transaction. They will also be able to assist should any complications come up.  It's always better to have an inside man.

4. Compare bundle deals and ask as much as you can.
- Before you make up your mind on what deal to go with, make sure you thoroughly go through all your options. While some deals might be cheaper, the speed or channels might not be what you are looking for. So it's always best to consider all options and decide only after doing so. Get professional assistance if you need to, this will not only enlighten you on all that you are getting, it could as well save you an extra buck or two.

5. Set up a billing cycle that works for you.
Most billing cycles start from the day of installation/service activation. You can set up and installation appointment that suits your billing cycle preference. To avoid any service interruptions due to payment, you can also set up a monthly automated payment with your provider this way your bill gets settled automatically at the end of every billing cycle. You can call your chosen provider and find out if they have this option available.

Advantages of Having a Home Phone Added on Your Plan

by CJ Nice of tech4today.net

Discounts, deals and promotions are the key to saving money. However, how do you really choose the best calling plan for your family? Are phones dead? Do people still use phones?

I do remember using phones with round dialers and chords in the 90's. Phones are the easiest way to communicate before beepers and mobile phones came to the market. But the fast pace of technology's development is slowly removing the use of home phones. Aside from having carry anywhere mobile phones we do have apps and Voips that allows us to call local and internationally.

For those who still believe in the importance of having a home phone or maybe plan on getting one this checklist might be able to help you choose the best plan.

1. How many times do you call overseas?
Most companies offer unlimited calling plan for local calls. But when it comes to international and long distance calls they do have calling plans that can help you save more money. Adding that on your service plan will at least charge you less per minute on calls this would be great if you have family members living overseas. Or if you have business that deals with a lot of calling for updates.

2. Are there kids, elders or disabled in the house?
E911 (Enhanced 911) phone feature which will determine a callers location and information will help in times of emergency. Having a home phone will help in case there's an emergency and mobile phone networks are down. And in case anything happens you can teach your kids how to dial 911. Easy access to emergency help line.

3. Security
People use equipment to easily intercept in mobile phone. Using landline needs bugging devices to intercept which needs to be installed in wires or phones itself.

4. Are you a home buddy?
If you rarely go out since landline phone plans are much more economical than mobile phone services. And plus local calls are free, it will allow you to save on monthly bills.

5. Are you signing-up with other services too?
If you are signing up services like cable or internet, choosing a bundle deal will let you get promotions that cost less if you add a phone line. You will have a phone and enjoy other perks as well. You might as well try a Triple Play bundle to enjoy all the freebies and bundle advantages.

Before finalizing your plan. Call service provider specialists to get prices and serviceability.

More Spectrum to Connected Devices!

by JE Cool of tech4today.net

FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, a Republican said, "We need more spectrum to connect billions of new devices to the Internet."

WASHINGTON, OCT 23 (Reuters)- As FCC studies whether to tap another massive unused block as it elected unanimously on Tuesday to open extra spectrum to the growing number of connected devices.

Making 1200 MHz of Spectrum available for use by unlicensed devices including things like Wi-Fi routers, connected home appliances, baby monitors, fitness trackers, garage door openers and cordless landline phones, in 6GHz band or five times the ongoing spectrum available was proposed by the telecommunications regulator.

Between 2016 and 2021, it is expected that Wi-Fi  networks will carry about half the traffic, and the total U.S. internet traffic will leap up to 300 percent.

"Risk of radio frequency interference to utilities' mission-critical networks outweighs the potential benefits from unlicensed use of the band," said the Utilities Technology Council. Noting that electric, gas and water companies use the 6 GHz spectrum band for communications networks, a team representing major utility confirms raised concerns.

The FCC elected 3-1 to issue licenses by the counties rather than smaller census tracks. The FCC also voted to make changes in how it auctions licenses in the 3.5 GH band-a key spectrum needed to deploy next-generation 5G networks.

Whether they should tap the 5.9 GHz unlicensed spectrum band for wireless devices, is still a matter of debate continues by FCC. To keep away car collisions, the automakers want to use spectrum to allow cars to "talk" to one another.

While FCC Commissioner Mike O'Rielly, a Republican, stated, "the nation's spectrum into the hands of those who maximize its use for Americans." And added that the Spectrum can be used for large-scale deploymetns of 5G or mobile networks and not just small-scale, fixed networks, will be ensured in the new rules.

In the contrary, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenwercel,  a Democrat, argued that, the proposal makes it critical for smaller players to experiment, stating, "This is like being at the dawn of the Uber age and doubling down on taxi medallions," she said.

Results from the first stage experiment over whether 5.9 GHz Spectrum can be shared will be delivered soon, said FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, on Tuesday.

Elon Musk's Critic has a Change of Heart

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

Stuart Varney, a long time critic of Elon Musk might very well be having a change in views about the technology entrepreneur and product architect of Tesla. Varney recently went on air and defended Musk in his interview.

This comes as a surprise as the Fox Business host has been quite vocal about his disapproval of Musks methods in the past. In 2014, Varney had a debate with colleague Liz Claman regarding subsidies being given to Tesla and SpaceX. In a remark after the debate, he was quoted as saying,  “Elon Musk is addicted to tax breaks.” Earlier this year in July, when Tesla was still struggling to hit its Model 3 production targets, Varney said that the “writing is on the wall” for Musk, and that “If he wants to run Tesla effectively, he has to calm down and maybe close his Twitter account or retire to a nice corner office and let an adult run things.”

However, in a recent show, the host had a different view on Must and stated that ‘I think it’s time to re-evaluate the man’. Varney also remarked that it is difficult to ignore the fact that Musk is a “brilliant” entrepreneur and that he actually does act on his visions and dream and turns them into reality.
“I think it’s time for a re-evaluation. I think it’s time to look at the man’s achievements, rather than his public image. Like him or not, Elon Musk is surely the prime example of a brilliant entrepreneur". Varney remarked. "He makes state-of-the-art electric cars. OK, he leaned heavily on green tax credits, but the Tesla is a stand-out vehicle. He had the vision. A lot of people talk about their “vision,*, but he went out and did it. You’ve heard of SpaceX. That’s an Elon Musk company. He had a vision for reusable rockets, and he went out and did that, too… That’s an achievement."

This comes as a great report for the 47-year-old CEO who's had an undeniable difficult year. However, despite all the run-ins he had with publications and long hours of work, he was still recognized as one of the best CEO of 2018 by Tesla and SpaceX employees.

by JE Cool of tech4today.net

In a report by The Times,  Facebook- to grow its user base and generate more advertising dollars, it gave tech giants  like Amazon, Netflix and Spotify more detailed data than it had previously disclosed as a part of effort. Microsoft's Bing search engine was authorized to see the names of Facebook users without permission is one of the examples among the Times provided of wider data access allowed by Facebook. Another one is, Netflix and Spotify had access to user's private messages, which sites "hundreds of pages of Facebook documents." said the report.

Papamiltiadis acknowledges Facebook "needed tighter management over how partners and developers can access information." While many of the attributes introduced through these partnerships in no longer available.

Microsoft, Amazon, Yahoo and all the other including partners of Facebook told The Times that none of the data  that they had access to, were inappropriately used.

Spotify stated, " Spotify cannot read users' private Facebook inbox messages across any of our current integrations," and said in a statement that they don't have any sort of evidence that Spotify ever accessed any private message.

Netflix denied the claims in the Times report, in a statement emailed to USA TODAY. The company said, "at no time did we access people's private messages on Facebook or ask for the ability to do so."

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg denied the claims that internal Facebook emails published by lawmakers in the U.K. proposed that the company explored different paths to sell people's dat, earlier this month.

New Snapchat Study Looks into Shopping Habits of Millenials?

by HN Porter of tech4today.net

A new study commissioned by Snapchat Inc looked into the shopping methods of millennials and revealed among other things that 73% of millennials prefer to use a debit or credit card over cash.
The study which was carried out by Cassandra, a research and consulting firm focused on millennials and Gen Z, ran from  Aug. 29 to Sept. 5, 2018, and observed 1,003 people majority of whom were in the age range of 18-34 and was primarily focused on millennials and their spending traits.
Some of the traits pointed out by the research is the high rise in mobile pay and the fact that although money-conscious, millennials spend a monthly average of 0ver $1000 on clothes, eating out and/or on health and fitness. They do this more than 35-65 year old.

Some points showed mobile pay on the rise, while others reinforced trends about the age group, such as what they spend their money on and why. For example, while millennials are money-conscious and 52 percent stick to a budget, they spend a monthly average of about $1,085 on new clothes, eating out or on health and fitness and do so more than 35-65 year olds.
The study also revealed that debit/credit card payment is more popular among millennials as compared to cash purchases and the average millennial owns at least 3 credit cards.  Fifty percent of these Credit card purchases are on clothes, fifty-three percent on travel, fifty-two percent on tech and fifty-two percent on restaurants.  The surveyed group also used mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay in the past three months and 21 percent of them used it on coffee and tea and 8 percent on fast food.

“We know that millennials will be a powerhouse in spending over the next decade and will shape the future of many brands, so we wanted to better understand the unique ways this generation thinks about and spends their money,” said Amy Moussavi, head of consumer insights at Snap. “We’ve learned that the future is brick-and-mobile: millennials are becoming comfortable with mobile commerce and payment, but still love their in-person experiences.”

The also showed that most millennials don't keep much cash on them with 34 percent of the group only carrying around $1 to $24 in cash, and 63 percent mainly use it to purchase fast food, 53 percent on restaurants and 51 percent use it groceries.

Your Office Christmas Party Checklist

by CJ Nice of tech4today.net

There's room for everyone on the Santa's Nice List. But how do we really get our "ho! ho! ho!" mode activated in Office Christmas Parties without awkwardly creating embarrassing moments? On regular parties you do involve a couple of drinks, music, dancing and just letting yourself out. These goes for our weekend party animals. However in Office Christmas parties, you would want to keep the good impression since your colleagues and bosses will be around. Let's discuss about a few pointers on how to be carefully enjoying.

Office Christmas parties sometimes do involve alcoholic drinks and cocktails. Good music and of course the delightful meals for everyone to enjoy. Do enjoy the party but don't drink "til you drop. The last thing you want to remember is making a mess and one of your colleague driving you home because you got too carried away with all the drinks.

It's a Party. Dress for it. Besides I'm sure there are a lot of promotions and deals that are going on that would help you dress according to color themes and costumes. Do find out if there is any dress code involved so you won't be the odd man out. But take note not too over dress as well. In most weekend club parties, women can usually dress half naked but in office Christmas parties you can still be sparkly and dressed well without the daring party clothes on. Don't wear something too formal unless the theme is a red-carpet dinner or awards nights which some companies schedule within the Holiday Season.

Everyone in the office is invited in the occasion. Don't discuss about work-related topics. Breathe some party air and forget about your unfinished assignments or your team  projects. Keep casual talks unless they ask something about a job. It's time to be yourself without trying to impress anyone. Try small talks and let others engage in the conversation.

Join in the competitions and games, the goal is to enjoy and not to just win. Don't isolate yourself and try to socialize. Party organizers prepared engaging activities where everyone can participate. If you have a big circle whom you always socialize with, break it and interact with ones you don't usually talk to. It will be a good opportunity to get to know more about the people you ride the elevator with or walk pass by the corridors.

Interact but this is not a good time to flirt with your office crush. Don't assume that he or she is actually giving any sort of signals at any point. Don't just approach and start flirting. Try to introduce and start a well mannered conversation. You will never know if someone is just trying to be nice, or they really like you. And who knows you might receive a humiliation piece if you go over boundaries.

Leave your kids at home unless it's a family oriented office Christmas party. We don't want kids to be running around adults who have influence of alcohol or conversations that are not "kids friendly". Get a baby sitter and enjoy a few hours of the night.

Don't be late! Don't delay the fun.

Wear your dancing shoes on and a bright sparkling smile!

How AI Helps IBM for Marketing

by JE Cool of tech4today.net

IBM is working hard trying to release the idea behind the artificial intelligence (AI) to the clients, describing how the technology actually operate. Studies show that eighty two percent of C-suite executives are willing to use AI but are worried about their limitations and skill set. But its already been used in vast range of services and also it has been implemented in areas such as recruitment and others to justify and make sure that it is not biased and does its work perfectly without any limitations as per the job description.

According to IBM Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Peluso "Technology can help to make sure there's not bias in promotions and the like and so (there is) this grounded belief at IBM that inclusion is part of our 'brand state'," she told to "Marketing Media Money."

Peluso said that there are many ways to use AI for marketers. The first is in getting to know their customers. She also added, " "It allows us to understand more about our customers. We can analyze tone. We can listen in on chat bots, we can analyze personality and social (media), so we have the ability to develop a richer understanding of our customers."

In business interaction with their customers, AI is being widely used and also chat bots are being used to answer customer service queries. The one-way messages that are broadcast to people traditionally and the nature of advertising- could also become more of an interaction.

Peluso said,"We can say in a digital ad (for example) what's in your refrigerator … And (it will) give you a great recipe, or (AI can) tell us why you're interested in a certain car. And we'll tailor the content live to make sure you're getting the answer, so it will change (so the advertising is) actually interacting … with customers."

She also added, "(We are) growing an immense amount of data (that) is almost overwhelming and we need artificial intelligence as marketers to help us understand what our next best action is for our customers," and she also said, AI is also helpful in predicting what customers want.

peluso stated that it is an "extraordinary time" to be a marketer, given the expansion of new technology. "(The) marketing role is transforming incredibly around the globe … We are so much more data driven than ever before. We are so much more technology driven than ever before. We have the ability to truly be client centric in new ways."

She also put attention to the fact that AI is in it's early stages, and that any insights generated by the technology belong to its customers and IBM focuses on data privacy.

In 2011 IBM's Watson computer gained huge fame when it beat two champions at the quiz show named "Jeopardy!" and also more than two decades ago its Deep Blue computer beat chess champion Garry Kasparov.

A former senior Vice-president of Watson and Cloud at IBM and acting as chief executive of research company Nielsen, David Kenny, previously told CNBC that pointing and focusing in the negative aspects if AI is "not helpful" considering the massive well being it could bring.

He also told CNBC through phone in May that,"It's making things safer in cyber security, it's helping doctors and nurses and patients better find health care, it's helping people be compliant and manage their tax codes, so I see all these great benefits from it. And I hate statements that make people afraid because I think that's not helpful"

And Kenny added,"I actually believe that if businesses and builders of the AI platform really adopt principles or trust and transparency they can get all the goodness without the risk."

Swarm Charged $900,000 by FCC for Launching Unauthorized Satellite.

by JE Cool of tech4today.net

The launching of the satellite by Swarm was held in the last January where FCC rejected their request to deploy and operation, citing concerns about the company's ability. The California-based start-up founded by former Google and Apple engineers in 2016 also agreed to intensify FCC oversight, and a pre-launch requirement notices to the FCC for three years.

The Federal Communications said on Thursday that Swarm Technology Inc will pay a penalty of $900,000 fine for launching and operating four small experimental communication satellites that risked "satellite collisions" and threatened "critical commercial and government satellite operations."

The investigation found that Swarm operated unauthorized weather balloon-to-ground station tests and other equipment experiments prior to satellite launch. Also Swarm had illegally transmitted signals between earth stations in the state of Georgia and the satellites for over a week.

However,  FCC granted permission in August for Swarm to reactivate the satellites and said then it is "fully committed to complying with all the regulations and has been working closely with the FCC," considering that its satellites are "100 percent trackable." Also Swarm aims to provide low-cost satellite internet service and plans to use a constellation of 100 satellites.

After winning FCC approval SpaceX launched three more satellites for Swarm on a Falcon 9 Rocket, earlier this month. Swarm co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Sara Spangelo said in a statement on Thursday that the company approves the FCC decision "and appreciates the FCC's ongoing support for Swarm's mission."

FCC Commissioner Mike O'Reilly stated the size of the fine "is probably not significant enough to deter future behavior, but the negative press coverage is likely to prevent this company and others from attempting to do this again." O'Reilly also added that an initial penalty negotiated by FCC staff was rejected by some commissioners, which led to reopening settlement talks.

Top Skills You Should Work on this 2019 According to Forbes

by CJ Nice of tech4today.net

I was reading about New Year's Resolution and came across this article that Lidija Globokar wrote. According to her, the two skills to work on are your Human Skills and Love IQ. One thing I do admire about Lidija is that she made a difference in lives of many women through workshops and recognize unrepresented groups. It was a short article so I decided to look more further about the two skills she mentioned.

The fast process of innovating artificial intelligence somehow contributed in the idea of focusing on digital skills rather than human skills. Rapid growth of developments in technology have made the youth more interested in courses that involves computer and tech. But according to her ''if you want to prepare yourself for the fourth industrial revolution and be prepared for your future job you should work on them and not only on digital skills.''

Strong communication skills fall under this category. Communication is one of the most important aspect in properly delivering good results on someone's job. ''The importance of communication is conveying information clearly and confidently, contribute to team discussions and you can also represent the company to other potential clients.'' these are few points HN Porter said during our discussion.

It's been a cliche that some people don't listen to understand but listen to answer. And one skill that should be recognized is Active listening skills. This just don't apply to oral listening but to visual too. In order for you to process information in the right way you have to practice listening to every detail either your boss, colleague, or clients tell you. You should be able to be kin enough when reading materials such as emails, modules and any written information that gives you instructions
to properly do your job. ''Sometimes you have to listen to anything anyone would say whether it's good or bad because at the end of that you will still learn a thing or two. Either learning what to do or not to do.'' O'E Stone shared.

There's a lot more in the list like
The ability to relate to others.
Patience with others.
Knowing how and when to show empathy.
Genuine interest in others.
Flexibility.
Good judgment.

In Jack Ma's interview in the WEFAM in 2018 he tackled about a new form of intelligence, the LQ (''the IQ of Love''). “To gain success a person will need high EQ; if you don't want to lose quickly you will need a high IQ, and if you want to be respected you need high LQ - the IQ of love.” Its about loving someone's self and others and to walk away from egoism.

Why is LQ important in someone's productivity at work? ''If you love yourself and others, you will feel positive. If you feel loved, you can boost your confidence.''- JE Cool.

There are a lot of skills that someone needs to develop in order to achieve the goal they want. But the most important part is to start with small things. Just like taking care of yourself whether it's about your physical, emotional health and way of thinking. It will soon enough all be transformed into positive results.
